Greetings Members,

 

I am grateful beyond measure to have this opportunity to reside over the 2008 National Black State Troopers Coalition’s Summer Training Conference. I am also encouraged by the membership’s enthusiasm and anticipation of this year’s conference. Our training sessions will feature Major Benjamin Brooks, Pennsylvania State Police-Retired,

 “Policing Your Image.” In addition, a special woman-only session by Dr. Barbara Collins is titled “It’s Your Turn, Find Your Authentic Self” will be offered for all women in attendance.

 

Our community service project will be a car seat detail. This detail has been very successful in recent years and its purpose has served as a reminder of our call to protect and serve.    

 

We have chosen the theme “Building Hope for Positive Change” to express the goals of our organization and celebrate the implementation of strategic plans to achieve continued and noteworthy success. However, the success of this conference depends upon your presence and support of this event.

 

This year’s conference will be a special event for our host, the always faithful, South Carolina Chapter. Their plan, as our host, is to provide southern hospitality. This can only be done if our membership and their guest follow the details which have been outlined in this five page packet.  I look forward to sharing in this experience with you.

Informational Sheet Concerning the 2008 Summer Training Conference

 

Hotel Reservations

 

The 2008 Summer Training Conference will be held July 29, 2008- August 3, 2008 at the Doubletree Guest Suites, 181 Church Street, Charleston, South Carolina. Telephone: 843-577-2644. The room rate is $129.00 single/double.  N.B.S.T.C. conference group ID is NBS. All reservations must be made by June 30, 2008.

Conference Registration

 

• The advance registration fees are $200.00 for members; $225.00 for non-members; spouse/guest $100.00. The registration includes all training sessions, tickets for Wednesday’s Prayer Breakfast, Thursday’s Fish Fry, the Banquet on Friday and Saturday’s Cookout. Extra tickets for the Prayer Breakfast only ($30.00), Banquet only ($60.00) and cookout only ($25.00) can be purchased at the registration desk.

Transportation

 

• Our host will provide transportation from the airport to the hotel.

• An attempt to obtain Free Parking for those driving to the conference is currently underway.

 

Other Information:

 

a)      The Prayer Breakfast will consist of a Flag Ceremony. Each chapter or state represented should provide a Flag Barrier and accessories, i.e. state flag, flag pole, flag stand and harness. Each Chapter or State Representatives participating please contact NBSTC  V.P. Cephus Rogers A.S.A.P., for practice times and location.  

 

b)      The Prayer Breakfast will be followed by a Conference Photo session which will take place on the steps of the U.S. Customs House on East Bay Street, Charleston, SC. The preferred attire for the photo session is dress uniform or business suit.

 

c)      The attire for the Banquet is semi-formal or after five.

 

d)      Each Chapter is responsible for five (5) car seats.
